The Story Behind the Bottle
Yarra Yering is a legend of Victoria's Yarra Valley. It was founded by Dr Bailey Carrodus in 1969, in a region that had been making wines since the 1850s. A New Zealander, he first studied horticulture in Wellington, then winemaking at Roseworthy, finishing his studies with a doctorate at Oxford University. There he was exposed to Europe's fine wines, from which grew a passion. In scholarly fashion, he did a study tour of Europe's top estates, then departed to Melbourne to teach. His aim was to find the perfect site for a vineyard, which he did in Yarra Valley, planting vines from 1969. Bordeaux-style Dry Red No.1 was his first release. Sourced from the original vineyard and aged 15 months in 40% new oak, it will mature with great grace.
